In 2021, I was asked by Rogue Fitness to build a Timber Yoke for their annual Rogue Invitational Strongman and CrossFit Contest. The body of the yoke is 100% mortise and tenon construction, held together with wooden pegs and with no steel fasteners. The wood is Southern Yellow Pine. The challenge with this build was hitting the target weight. All timbers were weighed beforehand and the structure redesigned to hit the target. The yoke also had to be balanced, with timbers on one side needing to weigh the same as the other. The yoke was designed collaboratively between my dad (Steve Slater), Rogue's engineering team, and myself. This Yoke was used at the 2021 and 2022 Rogue Invitational in Austin, TX.
